Linthorpe Road Methodist Church and Resource Centre.
The Olympic Torch Relay.
Sunday 17th June 2012.
It had been decided that Linthorpe Road
Methodist Church and Resource Centre would celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay passing
the Church building with help from other churches.
We collected flags, bunting etc to be used as decorations for outside the building
and inside the Community Café.
The Café was to have refreshments and facilities for anyone who wished to avail themselves
of cakes and eats supplied by members of several churches. It proved to be an enormous
success with several hun-dreds of people using the Café and resting a while prior
to the arrival of the torch.
Some were content to sit and talk and children had a great time with Hayley making
their own ‘torches.’
When the ‘Torch’ was about to appear the crowds in front of the building and along
the road were several lines deep and all were in good voice as the various
support vehicles passed by and then the great roar as the ‘Torch’ came into view.
